She says 70% of inmates in US come from single parents and that a simple change in marital laws could solve many of the crime problems.
It sounds like most people agree that her claims are pretty far fetched. At the end of the day, it sells books. As bad as it sounds, I hope she says the things she does to make money and not actually believe what comes out of her mouth.
EDIT: I agree with the answer that said it’s all in how the kids are raised whether by 2 parents or one. My mom did a damned good job for being on her own. And I know more than just the person I mentioned who was raised by 2 parents that got in trouble with the law.

Well I can see her point, but I don’t completely agree. I was raised by a single mother who had to work either 2 jobs or long hours (if she could get them) at one job. There was me, my sister, and my brother. And without a father around we got into a lot more trouble than if we would have with 2 parents and the supervision of a 2 parent household.
My sister and I never got in trouble with the law, other than underage drinking, so no jail time. But my brother has been in jail. He’s not now, and has been on a good path in his life for a long time. But he didn’t start getting in trouble until my mom was remarried, when he was like 13 or 14. So even with 2 parents he still managed to sneak out of the house at night and (with the help of an older accomplice) he was breaking into people’s cars. But of course he may have been acting out because of having a new stepfather. It’s hard to adjust to having a father when you never had one before. And by the way the accomplice was raised in a 2 parent household.

I disagree with a lot of what Coulter says, but there are statistics out there that do show a connection between criminals and single parent homes. Its tough being a single parent, but you still need to take the time to teach your child right from wrong.

Anyway, there is a big problem in this country where everybody is too scared to criticize anybody. We can’t criticize single mom’s, we can’t criticize rap singers and hip-hop artists, we can’t criticize gang members we can’t criticize illegal aliens.
Therefore we get lots of single parents, we get lots of black men in jail, we get lots of gangsta culture, we get lots of illegal aliens.

It doesn’t matter if they parent is single or married what affects a child going into crime is if the parents/parent has brought up their child properly or if the child is in a bad environment. actually anything can make a child go into crime. Ann Coulter talks out of her butt. She was accusing Matt Lauer of not letting her finish talking when he wasn’t even talking. I always thought Matt Lauer was conservative, but Ann Coulter makes him look like Michael Moore. When cornered with a question she cant answer she’ll bring up some irrelevant information as a distraction.
I came from a single parent home and so did most of my friends and none of us had ever been in jail. I’d be interested to know where she got her facts from.
Personally, I think Ann Coulter is on cocaine. She looks thin and sickly and acts paranoid all the time.

Being raised in a single parent household can cuase my damaging effects. The most critical I believe is male children being raised without a father figure; namely a positive male role model. Things like "Big brothers", a family member, or a suitable positive male role model in thier lives can actually curb alot of these effects. Alot of pychological and emotional issues can result from the lack of such an influence in a child’s life. Based on the suprising number of inmates in prison right now that didn’t have a positive male role model, or father figure, would lead me to believe that this is one of the root causes from people to turn to a life of crime or just make some really bad life choices which would lead to being put in jail. I do believe that other factors come into play and this isn’t the only thing that cuases crime, but to answer your question…yes… both a male and a female influence in a child’s life is vital to thier mental life and thier development into positive and successful members of society.
