My wife and I are filling for divorce and we have called around to a couple of places and found that even with a mediator it’s going to cost upwards of two thousand dollars and I was just wondering if anyone knows of a cheaper way to go about like if maybe health insurance would cover services or something. I’m filing in texas but living in north carolina

You actually CAN file for a Divorce on your own. There are a few expenses, such as the filing fee. But you can typically find the forms you need at your courthouse’s website and print them out yourself. If you and your wife can come to an agreement, then it’s easier just to do it on your own without a lawyer. There may be a place in your area that will review your documents to make sure they are clear and concise and cannot be interpreted wrong.

It is disheartening to see so many marriages on the rocks in today’s society.  Even worse, it is depressing to see so many of them end up in ugly divorces.  If you feel the same way you may be asking yourself “How can I save my marriage?” If you think about it, immediately filing for Divorce is not a solution to marriages that have hit bottom.   There are better solutions although they require that both partners be committed to saving the marriage and relationship they have.  Generally the first good idea is to seek some marriage counseling, so you can get a mediator to hear both sides of the story.  Otherwise you may waste precious time simply arguing the same subjects over and over with no resolution. The children were taken from the mum by police and social services. After one year of them staying with the dad he wants to formalize their stay. Will it be enough to seek help from mediator or will the case have to go to court?

Do you mean a mediator or Cafcass?

If it’s Cafcass – the judge takes their recommendation like 99.9% of the time.

I think in your case, it’s gone way too far for mediation.

Usually, you would go to a mediator first (before things have got nasty).

Then it goes to Cafcass. The Cafcass worker will see you with the kids, and your ex with the kids, and make a report.

Then there’s the court case – the judge will listen to Cafcass.

It would all go to court, and obviously the dad would have made the "residency" application.

Sounds to me like he’s got it in the bag; it needs rubber stamping, which means a residency order in his favour.

They don’t like to move kids around and upset the status quo, and this would be the case even if the mum was fit (which she isn’t, if police and SS got involved!)
