After the divorce, the woman has the house, half the her ex-husband’s assets, money, etc. Why are women laid off easy after the Divorce?

I wouldnt say that happens a lot. Most times they only get child support.

It wasn’t officially a mediator – but we did sit down with a single lawyer and she worked out all the details. We met together to discuss property, custody etc. It works great if you can agree on things and saves a ton of money. It is better to work things out while in the same room together to prevent misunderstandings and to keep the lawyers and other third parties out of the mix as much as possible. Ours simply wrote up the papers for us and submitted them to the court. I went before the judge for about 5 minutes and it was all over. ( Pretty sad that you can end a 20 year marriage in 5 minutes – huh?)

I am currently legally separated but I would like to get it switched to divorce. Been legally separated for 6 months now and want a completed Divorce, but she won’t change it. My ex wife has a lawyer and she is the one that filed for legal separation. I would like to switch it over to divorce but I do not have a lawyer. So how can I do this? I live in Indiana.

Go down to the Court and ask the clerk for the forms that you need to fill out and file. I don’t know about Indiana, but where I live and work (Maricopa County Arizona) our Superior Court has all their forms online. You might want to check to see if your county does too.

Quick story:
I’m single father, my wife and I spit 7 years ago, I have the children.
I have run a business from home for years, due to family commitments and the children being more demanding as they get older my business has suffered being reduced to a hobby.
My wife is Bipolar and has not seen her children in years. She pays no maintenance, and receives a pension off the government for her so called illness.
I have been informed by the crown that as my oldest child is now seven. I must return to work; an interview with an employment agency has been arranged. If I had the time to work I would be working full time at my business. Why can my wife sit on her fat a@@ and do nothing, and be paid. While I raise four kids and get told I have to work. .

Is there justice in Aus for Single parents like me? Is my wining justified?

ok….your best bet is to fire up your home business again. You have until July 2007 to so this or get a job. The Aust Gov’t will be asking you to work 18 hours per week and this is so you can get your pps. If your wife is bipolar, and you two are Divorced, just move on, sounds to me like you have major unresolved issues concerning her, she isnt a part of your life or the kids, so move on and stop being bitter, it’s only affecting you and how you relate to your kids. You are only being asked to go back to work because your youngerst is obviously now at school, so there is atleast 6 hours that you can use to fire up your business at home a day which is 30 hours per week, there is nothing stopping you. Im a single mum of three and Ive been there and done that and Im back at work.

If both of you are in agreement – and if both of you get along — go together to an attorney and file … OR … if nothing is involved but a simple Divorce – you can do it yourself.
